Terms
Terms of Use
Draft scaffold. These terms describe how visitors and contributors may use this site today and how the platform will operate when it begins accepting submissions. The governance posture on our privacy page applies throughout.
Draft scaffold — not yet legally reviewed
This page is a public statement of intent, not a binding legal agreement. We post it now so visitors and prospective contributors can see the posture we are designing toward; we will revise it after legal review before submissions open. Nothing here constitutes legal advice.
Use of the Site
You may use this site to read about our work, follow the open development of our curriculum and atlas, contact us, and — when the platform opens — contribute samples, observations, or analyses.
Please do not attempt to disrupt the site or its federation partners, submit content you do not have the right to share, or use the site to identify individuals without their consent.
Contributed Content (Samples, Observations, Analyses)
Pre-launch. Contributors will choose a licensing posture at submission time: the default for non-community-stewarded data will be CC-BY-4.0, allowing reuse with attribution. Community-stewarded data is not covered by a default license — the originating community's authority governs reuse, per the community-sovereignty principle on our privacy page.
Contributors retain sovereignty over their samples. Attribution and provenance travel with the data across federation partners, and any reuse must respect both the contributor's licensing posture and any applicable community governance.
Data Federation & API
Pre-launch. When the API opens, federation partners and the general public will access atlas records through documented endpoints. We will enforce FAIR principles as engineering constraints at ingestion (not as goals reviewed afterward), and community-stewarded records will carry governance metadata that downstream consumers must respect.
Federation access does not override contributor or community rights. A federation partner who receives a record receives it under the same governance posture the originating contributor and community set.
Liability & Disclaimers
This site is provided on an "as-is" basis. We make no warranty that the site, atlas, or API will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for any particular purpose. Scientific content reflects the state of the work at the time of publication and may be revised as the field advances.
Nothing on this page is legal advice. This draft will be revised after legal review before any submission flow opens.
Governance
These terms inherit the governance posture stated on our privacy page. For data stewarded by Indigenous and community partners, CARE and OCAP apply and supersede any general term on this page. Where a term here and the community-sovereignty principle could be read as conflicting, the community-sovereignty principle governs.
